Sauna and local life at Himos

Have you ever been in a smoke sauna?

This package takes you to the Sauna Village at Jämsä which includes about 20 smoke saunas from 1700’s to 1940’s. On the guided tours of Sauna Village, you can get acquainted with the history of the Finnish sauna spanning a thousand years, or the cultural history of Finnish saunas, and you may have even a possibility to test couple of them. During this holiday you will also experience a sauna yard with modern sauna and jacuzzi, barrel sauna, a wood burning sauna and a hot tub. The must-see places nearby Himos are the Moose Manor with deer animals and a moose family as well as Patapirtti – Uusi-Yijälä Ecofarm.

DAY 1

At 4 pm CHECK-IN​

The keys to your chosen holiday cottage will be waiting at the Himos Center reception at the address of Länsi-Himoksentie 4. ​

DAY 2

At 5 pm GUIDED VISIT AT THE SAUNA VILLAGE

Probably the biggest collection of smoke saunas in the world can be found from Sauna Village, which is located in Juokslahti, Jämsä just about 6 km from Himos. In this beautiful spot at the bay of the Lake Päijänne, the historic saunas are being carefully restored by using the traditional tools and methods. The restoration is done by volunteer work of dedicated sauna lovers from Finland and all over the world. The best part is that the traditional smoke saunas that have been restored are being heated on Saturdays during the summer and you are welcome to join and keep the culture alive. You will learn about the history of Finnish Sauna and especially smoke sauna. You’ll also have a possibility to test one or some of these ancient smoke saunas.​

At 7 pm SAUNA YARD AT HIMOS

The evening continues at the Sauna Yard by the Lake Patalahti. You will have Finnish Sauna Meal, and possibility to test 4 different kinds of saunas, hot tub, and Jacuzzis. The Lake Patalahti also offers a possibility for year-round natural water swimming.
Mixed saunas. Please bring your own sauna gear (swimsuits, towels) possibility to cool down in the lake!

DAY 3

At 1 pm VISIT TO MOOSE MANOR ZOO

In the backwoods of Himos lies a peculiar small zoo park called the Moose Manor. This is the only place in Finland where you can share kisses with a moose, not just watch them from a distance. There are also reindeer and fallow deer’s and all of them are super friendly and accustomed posers for selfies. The charming rustic manor is more than 150 years old and keeps astonishing people with its simple but prestigious country style décor. You will also have a delicious lunch at the Manor.​

At 6 pm VISIT AND DINNER AT THE PATAPIRTTI- UUSI-YIJÄLÄ ECOFARM

Uusi-Yijälä’s estate is a vineyard and restaurant that is dedicated for seasonal food and Finnish ingredients. It is located on the other side of the Lake Patalahti from the reception. During the visit to the premises, you will hear about the cultivation of the yard, feed the adorable sheep, and hear about the interesting history of the estate that has stood here for generations. After a visit, it is possible to stay for dinner at Patapirtti

The keys are returned to Himos Center reception

Observe moose, fallow deer and reindeer at the Moose Manor grounds. You will get to see animals at close range and feed them with the manor’s treats. If the animals are in a good mood, you may even get to pet them!

The hidden wilderness treasure Isojärvi offers rugged ravine valleys, vast forests and a clear watered streams and lake. The National Park is a great place for a day tour from Himos or even an overnight.

Päijänne-Risteilyt Hilden Oy has long traditions of operating ships across the length and breadth of the majestic Lake Päijänne waterway. Departures: Jyväskylä harbour, 45 min drive from Himos.

Price includes: 3 nights’ accommodation in a cottage with own sauna, min. 1 bedroom + sleeping loft, well equipped kitchen, fireplace, shower, toilet, TV.
